Dr. Gillian McLellan graduated as a veterinarian in 1990 from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. After a few years spent working in general veterinary practice, she gained her first qualification in veterinary ophthalmology in 1993. She then completed a residency and PhD at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, England.

Dr. McLellan moved to the USA in 2000, and has since held faculty positions at UC Davis in California; Iowa State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, Dr McLellan holds positions in both the School of Medicine and Public Health and the School of Veterinary Medicine at UW-Madison.

Dr. McLellan is board-certified in veterinary ophthalmology by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in the UK, the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, which she also serves as Executive Secretary.

Dr. McLellan lectures throughout North America and Europe, and has published a number of papers on equine topics including general equine ophthalmology, management of corneal ulcers in horses and equine recurrent uveitis. Her research interests include glaucoma in all species, including humans.

Dr. McLellan lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her husband, an embarrassingly overweight cat and a pair of very energetic twin boys.

Research

Dr. Bentley is interested in applications of high resolution ultrasound in ocular disease. Currently she has several research projects concerning glaucoma prophylaxis and ultrasound. Another area of interest in corneal wound healing, specifically non-healing erosions in dogs.

Responsibilties

Course coordinator for the clinical rotation; continuing education for private practitioners and resident training.

Clinical Interests

Medical and surgical ophthalmology in all species with a special interest in corneal disease and glaucoma.
